Typical Trentino Art
Villa de Varda is situated in the heart of the
Piana Rotaliana, a wide alluvial plain crossed by
the stream Noce and the river Adige. At the
beginning of 19th century, the geo-ethnographer
Cesare Battisti, later irredentist martyr, gave a
synthetic and realistic description of this area
defining it as “the nicest vine garden in Europe".
This beautiful area of prestigious vineyards is
the cradle of rare wines known worldwide. From
such noble grapes, so rich in flavour and taste,
the best marc for aromatic grappas is also
derived.
The Trentino grappa and its high quality, which
shaped the image of this typical national product,
are protected by the trademark issued by the
Istituto Tutela Grappa del Trentino. Alongside
with Villa de Varda, most part of the distilleries
of this region are member of that institute:
hereby, the consumers are further guaranteed about
the products.
The art of distilling marc is an ancient local
tradition and the activities of vinedressers of
this valley such as the Dolzans led to a
deeply-rooted specialization.

A
Vine Garden
Situated at the foot of the Alps, the region
called Trentino enjoys a fair climate for the
cultivation of rare grape varieties. At its
centre, the Piana Rotaliana, a viticultural plain
par excellence, is the cradle of the most
prestigious oenological products of this area and
it is known for its lush vineyards cultivated with
the pergola system, typical of Trentino.
This pergola expanse is crossed by the stream Noce
and the river Adige. It consists of a wide
alluvial plain and it has fertile, generous and
always well-drained soil, rich in calcareous and
porphyritic elements.
The surrounding mountains slowly slope down to
sunny, marvellous hills, which are ideal for
viticulture. Here, between the Dolomites and the
Garda lake, the continental climate meets the
Mediterranean and such combination proves to be
very salubrious. The mildness of summers alongside
with the considerable temperature range between
night and day greatly contribute to the complexity
of the aromas of wines.
In this area, viticulture and the care of the
cellars have been the prevailing activities for
centuries. Thanks to such settled traditions, to
the deep-rooted expertise of producers and to the
state-of-the-art technology, the wines of Trentino
are well known and appreciated worldwide. |
